During repeated attempts to connect to several random systems, I noticed it. Instead of the usual innocent exchange of bits and bytes today at work, I began to observe my laptop veering into complete promiscuous territory. I'm not talking trace analysis promiscuity, it's the other kind. The smutty kind where I think my laptop is hooking up with too many other random networks. I mean, who even knows where those cables have been?
It first started with the hotel RJ45 plug this morning. After that, it was off to a quick data exchange at work site building # 1. Then it happened again at work site building #2 for a quick hook up. 10 miles later in work site building #3, I began to feel icky. Another random plug with meaningless bits. Then back to Building # 2 for a quick byte followed by another stop at building #1 for a download and now back to the hotel to take on more sessions. It's out of control. There's more cables sharing that loose port than should be allowed.
It's unacceptable. Giving a 3 way handshake to any old schmo with a TCP stack is disgusting. Here's hoping the next plug has it's bits together and comes with a lengthy IP lease/commitment. Spray air cleaning is essential.
